The LCD Soundsystem show last night was a transcendental rock moment. I’ve seen some truly great shows in my time, but only a few had that holy-smokes!-we-are-here-together-seeing-something-veryvery-special-right-now feeling. The entire house, back to the very last row was rocking song after song after song and in my mind it had no doors - they’d all been blown off. But what really made it special was a feeling of emergence, of watching a talented man find his very powerful stride, of a seemingly reluctant generational hero settling into place.
During the opening act we were on the balcony standing next to James Murphy and his crew. He was perfectly relaxed, digging the act, at home within the scene. I recall standing just behind him, his husky silhouette cut out against the stage lights. I’ll always wish I had that shot on film - it felt like living in the classic backstage shots of Plant or Jagger. He was that good last night.
This piece on Brooklyn Vegan today echoes my sentiment.
